Herring of the year on Klädesholmen
Herring of the year is a collaboration between Klädesholmen Seafood and the Salt & Sill restaurant here at Klädesholmen. Every year the herring of the Year is appointed by a renowned jury. One Swedish crown per sold jar can goes directly to the Sea Rescue Company and their work for increased safety at sea.
The goal is to develop new, exciting and innovative herring products. Every year, four different herrings are created for the herring of the Year, and then presented to an expert jury who finally designates the herring of the Year. After the herring has been chosen, we have to prepare the herring so that the taste is just as intended.
The 6 of june it is time for the launch of the new flavor. At Klädesholmen we celebrate “Sillens Dag” and the launch of the herring of the Year is a highlight during the day.

Herring of the year 2023 - Citrus & Green Tea
Never before has the Herring of the Year had such a large and solid jury as this year. When the Sea Rescue Society had its national meeting, Salt & Sill and Klädesholmen Seafood were present and presented three different nominated flavors for sea rescuers from all over the country. The Sea Rescue Society works for increased safety at sea. Through its 71 stations along the long coast of Sweden and in the large lakes, 2,200 volunteer sea rescues are provided 24 hours a day, all year round.
When the jury cast their votes and counted, it was clear that the Herring of the Year 2019 is a creamy herring with light Caribbean flavors of Coconut and Chili.
The Herring of the Year project is a collaboration between the restaurant / conference facility Salt & Sill at Klädesholmen and Klädesholmen Seafood. The goal is to develop new, exciting and innovative herring inlets and at the same time contribute to the important work of the Sea Rescue Society. The proposals for this year’s Herring are prepared by Salt & Herring and its staff. After the jury’s election, Klädesholmen Seafood’s work remains to produce a herring insert that is adapted for factory production.
